    Solidad attends Yaoi Con

In my endless pursuit of finding a non traditional convention. It has come to my attention that aside from commercially driven, cosplay enriched profit oriented event, such as Ozine Fest, Toy Con, or other well known “Anime” conventions spewing on the radar. There is one small, yet interesting (for fujiyoshi that is) convention will take place this April. Unfortunately, it happens that it will be their last as well. Alas such spectacle should never be left unnoticed.

Lights Out, the 6th and final Philippine Yaoi Community convention, will take place this April 24, at the Lepanto Penthouse of the 21st floor of the Lepento building. Slots are limited, and ticket priced at an interesting 300 pesos. The ticket is inclusive of  their well renowned butler cafe, called Cafe Le Mirage.

Other activities (incentives) include film screening, a manga library, a doujin dealers room, and raffle prizes. expect that most of the contents are geared toward BL, yaoi fanbase. (This might be the only convention that i may actually spend money).

However, take note, that admission is limited. In order for you, or your group to enter such a fine unique convention, is to email their moderator. For details, and for the original link to the event, click here to see.

If you’re wondering why i would attend on such an unusual event? It’s because: A)Sick and tired of crowded conventions, flooded with too many cosplay people. B) I appreciate Yaoi/BL/Shota genres, because of its exotic storyline. Something that has more effort than traditional/conventional adult anime genre.

I almost forgot. This is an adult convention, so 18 and above only.

    Sunday Feature: Shaft Moment

    February 21st, 2010 by Solidad

On this weeks feature. shaft, famous for its titles, such as Dance in the Vampire (loli) bund, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and Bakemnongatari. Featuring another one of its weird yet creative opening production for the hit anime series Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. It is unclear whether the minds behind the conception of such idea are in a state of artificial euphoria, or in a state of severe mental instability. However, the end result ended with a opening that is quite plesant, with a dose of WTH feel to it. It would’ve been nice; if they can spend all the money hiring staff and getting their other projects to have the same quality that the Zetsubo Sensei is having.

9th Toy Con Dated: Nothing else follows

    February 5th, 2010 by Solidad

According to the folks at Anime Alliance Philippines; the one who brought us the Heron Nation Cosplay contest (see my review here). Has stated in their official headline blog site, that the 9th toy con schedule, one of this years big events will be held, in the usual confines of the SM Megatrade hall. though they haven’t stated how many halls it will occupy on the said event. but they announce the date, which will be on the 19, and 20th of June. Of course, one of the highlight of this event is the Cosplay competition; which we all have seen … like 6th time as the event nears its dated promise.

Cosplay has been the bread of butter of any geek related convention in this country. If they really want to put an event, and have cosplay as its main attraction, why not name all the events of this year as, Cosplay Mainia, Cosplay Madness, Cosplay Fest, Cosplay Con, Cosplay A*ko, Cosplay Nation, and  Cosplay Expo; these organizers (not pointing at AAP) should just be direct to the point, that what they want is to rip money from the cosplayers. The cosplayers won’t mind, because they love what they are doing. But the people who simply want to have a common ground for their hobbies (i.e. Toys) should be left alone as it is, and shouldn’t get distracted by these cosplayers.

Since this event is 2 months after Ozine Fest; the chances of going to this event is slim. As usual, JP might come here, he loves this kinds of events.

PS: They also announced in their website, that they (AAP Philippines) are undergoing a management change. Reasons are stated on the link provided. They always give me the impression, that these people are some kind of stiff corporate organization made from anime. But unlike any other campus wide organization, they have a strong backbone support.
