Its been like, 3 weeks since Gintama first aired in ABS. It seems its time to look at the TV ratings, and see if Gintama had the balls against GMAs top gun Hunter X Hunter, after the break.
the graph above shows Gintama, and Hunter X Hunter percentage share between the weekdays of January 18, and 25. As you can see, the national rating shows that, both animes are neck to neck in their air block, and it seems that the ratings will depend on the episode being aired on both animes. Pretty much, the result is still indefinite, and gintama sure has the balls to compete with an established title such as hunter x hunter; who’s regarded as one of the best animes of the Golden Era.
Despite the bad reactions from the fans of the original; It may seem that casual viewers are satisfied with gintamas weird episodic nature, that may perhaps give first hand viewers a reason to watch the series no matter how far the series has gone. I may not like it, but this is quantitative data, the only thing left is to believe in it.
On the other hand, mega manila ratings are as not forgiving as its former; though we are presented with limited data. Hunter Hunter is still seated high over the air block, with almost high margins with Gintama. Some say AGB ratings are using a different method compared to its TNS counter part. Or, it could have been attributed to TV5 line-up, or perhaps that most hard core Anime Enthusiast are gathered in manila, and has a lot of means to get anime to third party means. We can hypothesize, that most sub fans are concentrated in Mega manila, as compared to the other. What ever the case point, Gintama is not having its good time on its target base.
